On Saturday, 25 July, Media City Academy invites prospective students and their families to step inside South Africa’s only campus on a working production lot for an Open Day unlike any other. More than an opportunity to explore our campus, this year’s event marks the launch of our inaugural Student Film Festival, celebrating original films by our students alongside the work of other emerging South African filmmakers.
Throughout the morning, audiences will enjoy a curated programme of documentary and narrative screenings that showcase the creativity, technical ability and fresh perspectives of the next generation of storytellers. But the films are only the beginning.
Each screening will be followed by conversations between student filmmakers and industry professionals, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how ideas become productions. From developing authentic stories and directing real people to understanding what the industry expects from graduates, these discussions will give aspiring creatives and their families an honest insight into the realities of working in film and television.
The programme also features a keynote address by one of South Africa’s most respected names in film and television, who will share insights into building stories that resonate with audiences both locally and globally. Visitors can also look forward to thought provoking conversations around funding, film festivals, music in film, career pathways and practical advice for emerging filmmakers from industry guests and creative professionals.
Beyond the screenings and panel discussions, you’ll have the opportunity to explore our studios, meet our lecturers, speak to current students and receive personalised career guidance.
